“This series of essays aims to reconstruct and reintroduce the radical feminist framework that its misbegotten inheritors seem determined to forget and in doing so boldly makes the claim that transfeminism, far from being antagonistic to radical feminism, is in fact its direct descendant. It shows how a comprehensive social theory of transsexual oppression flows almost naturally from radical feminist precepts and dares to declare that a materialist, radical transfeminism is the way forward to seize the foundations of patriarchy at the root.”

This is headed nowhere good, and it’s headed there fast.

The ninja used to be an overwhelming presence in mediocre Internet humor. Ninja Sex Party, Everybody Needs a Ninja, both Kid Radd and Ctrl+Alt+Del joking about Jewish ninjas . . . Is there anything today that fills the same niche? Only thing I can think of is maid.

I was surprised to discover Blue Prince isn’t a retelling of Bluebeard.

thinking about someone I should not bother thinking about

Once upon a time, I was friends with a guy named Jim. A very, very few of you might know him. Almost all of you won’t.

I walked away some years ago, blocked him on the socials over his support for the fascist, because I said that the fascist’s promises absolutely, positively, literally required American concentration camps, and that’s what he was supporting by supporting the fascist, and I could not abide that…

…and yet, he carried on, saying I was a fool, and that none of it would ever happen.

(I asked him then why did he support someone he insisted was lying to him. I do not remember getting an answer, before I quit.)

So now that we have American concentration camps…

…and now that people with direct access to the fascist are talking about sending literally every American citizen of Latino heritage there to die…

Laura Loomer on X, screencap-quoted on Bluesky:"Alligator lives matter. The good news is, alligators are guaranteed at least 65 million meals if we get started now."El Norte Recuerda on Bluesky, who posted the screencap:"The entire Latino population in the U.S. is 65 million. She means all of us."

(it will require more concentration camps than that, of course, but that’s a detail which makes no difference)

I wonder…

…has he yet been moved to repentance?

Or is he still a good and solid member of that wretched cult?

It’s immaterial now, of course. We are long past the point where the pebbles’ opinions matter, and crimes already done cannot be undone.

But once in a while, I think of it.

And for a moment – a pointless, irrelevant moment – I still wonder.

I’m willing to say “cosexed.” It’s a simple enough substitution for your “h-slur.” But you are not going to get me to say “gonosimulistic.”

Also, “cosexual” sounds like someone who’s sexually attracted to people who’re attracted to them.

Monthly Roundup Returns

[community profile] sunshine_revival's first challenge is goals/plans for the month, just in time for me to actually post my monthly plans roundup. (A couple of days late, because hot.)

So here goes:

June )

July's plans are to survive being too fucking hot.

July )

There is another part to the challenge but I'll worry about that later, if at all.

One character's guilt complex: she thinks her wish to "survive" manipulates nearby people into sacrificing their lives to save her. Holy shit.

Weather's cooled down a bit, that's nice

Moonpie's foot looks better, we didn't end up having to take her for an x-ray at all.

A Song on the End of the World by Czeslaw Milosz

On the day the world ends
A bee circles a clover,
A fisherman mends a glimmering net.
Happy porpoises jump in the sea,
By the rainspout young sparrows are playing
And the snake is gold-skinned as it should always be.

On the day the world ends
Women walk through the fields under their umbrellas,
A drunkard grows sleepy at the edge of a lawn,
Vegetable peddlers shout in the street
And a yellow-sailed boat comes nearer the island,
The voice of a violin lasts in the air
And leads into a starry night.

And those who expected lightning and thunder
Are disappointed.
And those who expected signs and archangels’ trumps
Do not believe it is happening now.
As long as the sun and the moon are above,
As long as the bumblebee visits a rose,
As long as rosy infants are born
No one believes it is happening now.

Only a white-haired old man, who would be a prophet
Yet is not a prophet, for he’s much too busy,
Repeats while he binds his tomatoes:
There will be no other end of the world,
There will be no other end of the world.

Warsaw, 1944

M-T-W

Luckily, shutdown this year has us staying on our shifts. (Though I admit to being slightly sad to not be able to grab takeout every day after work...)

Unfortunately it is still stupidly hot despite being dark and the humidity is actually brutal.

Got an amusing postcard from [personal profile] misbegotten, thank you! And zines from [personal profile] used_songs, yaaaay! (I flipped through them quickly, will look properly over the weekend, probably.)

And received some lovely icons over in [community profile] femgiftboxes from [personal profile] cosmic_whore_writes and [personal profile] linky. <3 I wrote three things, which I will try to get archived to my own spaces this weekend for easier reading. ^_^;

[community profile] sunshine_revival has started. The first prompt includes goals/plans, and since I do those monthly anyway, I'll get that posted sooner than later. (but not til after work, at least)

A few minutes ago, the first drop of 'Gundam Summer Fest' went live on the Premium Bandai site. I had a kinda chonky list of things I wanted and low expectations because "things sell out instantly" and yeaaah, lol. I actually managed nine of sixteen things on my list and then added in a couple other normal pre-orders with the same shipping month, so I'm pretty happy! There'll be at least one other drop next month? and then whatever after the pop-up tour is over, and of course I'm actually going to try to get to the last pop-up tour date so there might be some of these kits there?

I owe a post of kit photos and whatnot. Hopefully over the weekend.

Imagine a world where most decent-paying jobs require a physical fitness test. It’s taken as a given that anyone can pass the test, but it weeds out lots of people with disabilities. If you point out that the test has nothing to do with the work you want to do, people say you don’t understand the purpose of the test.

So no, I don’t give a shit about cheating in college.

Battle of the Space Submarines

It's been a busy spring, with all the work on the next two Dream books. (Volume five is out now!) Now that we're done with that, I was finally able to work more on my concept art series. This time with a piece that sends back to the tense encounter early on in [personal profile] kantuck's novel Shadowing the Dream:

3D render of two spaceships that resemble dieselpunk submarines. One is chasing the other, firing torpedoes. In the background, planets hang in a dark sky.

There's a new model and a refurbished model. You'll see the former again on the cover of upcoming volumes, too. But first to rest a bit and make another poster like these, because it's so satisfying.

Call your Republican Senators RIGHT NOW.

Not later; not tonight; RIGHT NOW. Pick up the phone and dial the switchboard if you don’t know their office’s direct number:

(202) 224-3121

Tell your Republican Senator or Senators that you demand they vote AGAINST the Big Ugly Bill that transfers wealth to the billionaire class at a scale not seen in decades if ever, and balloons the national debt to levels never imagined.

They’re still going through amendments. There is still time, if you call RIGHT. NOW.

Rebuilding journal search again

We're having to rebuild the search server again (previously, previously). It will take a few days to reindex all the content.

Meanwhile search services should be running, but probably returning no results or incomplete results for most queries.

Rereading Undead Unluck, and wow these early bits do not fit with the rest of the story at all. People talk about how Andy was way more sexually aggressive, but that feels small compared to how evil the eventual good guys seem and how little fuss there is about killing them.

Speaking of fictional lawfirms, we finished new Matlock

Season finale spoiler )

During the Christmas episode we saw the firm's acapella group, which might have just been an excuse to highlight one character's amazing singing voice. Anyway, they were singing White Winter Hymnal, and I'm going to just post two quick videos, the original version and a different acapella cover:

(Those lyrics can't be entirely right - surely the pack is swaddled in their coats, not swallowed?)

Anyway, you'll notice that in the first one they weirdly pronounce "the" with a "long e" (the vowel in pee) before the words "white snow". Does that strike anybody else as a weird place to do that?
